Coming home one night after covering a boxing match, Erik saves a homeless man from getting beat up by a group of rowdy college kids. In a brief conversation, Erik learns that this man is Champ, the one time great boxer Bob Satterfield.

 

Erik Kernan is a young sports writer for the city newspaper. Lately, his work seems to be lacking heart – more assignments, but less quality. Coming home one night after covering a boxing match, Erik saves a homeless man from getting beaten up by a group of rowdy college kids. In a brief conversation, Erik learns that this man is Champ, the one-time great boxer Bob Satterfield.

Seeing an opportunity to resurrect a great man in a heartfelt story that could boost his own career, Erik befriends Champ to find out more about him.  This journey, which began as a search for the truth about Champ, ends with Erik finding out more about himself and his relationship with his young son and his recently separated wife.
